RW Collins Restores TCE-Impacted Site

Situation

A local environmental engineering company contracted
RW Collins to remediate a site with hazardous levels of trichloroethylene (TCE) for a manufacturing company. Site security was a top priority due to the nature of the contamination as well as proximity to the public right of way.

The RW Collins Approach

The scope of work was to:

• excavate and stockpile clean clay from the top three feet of site
• excavate, stockpile and treat hazardous materials in order to reduce the contaminant levels to a non-hazardous state
• place treated soils back in excavation site
• install an engineered barrier to prevent further contamination
• place and compact clean clay on top of engineered barrier

The project was performed in stages over a period of several weeks.

Results

RW Collins returned the site to the manufacturing company in full compliance with all EPA regulations. What was once a highly contaminated off-limits space became a safe, usable and green area.
