RW Collins Safely Remediates Lead-Contaminated Soil from Downtown Job Site

Situation

An environmental engineering firm contracted RW Collins to remove lead-contaminated soil for a Midwestern city. Space was tight and the city setting prohibited using large equipment. In addition, the area had heavy pedestrian traffic, making safety and security critical concerns.

The RW Collins Approach

Before beginning any work, RW Collins set up a special security perimeter around the job site to ensure the safety of pedestrians. Once the site was secured, the team brought in specialized equipment powerful enough to do the job, yet small and agile enough to maneuver in the confined space.

The scope of work was to:

• excavate, haul and dispose of the hazardous soils
• confirm that all hazardous materials had been removed via laboratory analysis of soil samples
• excavate, haul and dispose of the non-hazardous contaminated soil
• transport, place and compact clean backfill materials

Results

Upon completion of the project the site had no environmental issues remaining. This resulted in an increased market value. The site has since been developed for commercial use.
