These are strictly and uniformly enforced at all locations and work sites. As a result, our Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is consistently below the industry average.

RW Collins Takes Extra Precautions for Its Employees

RW Collins cares deeply about the health and well-being of its employees. We insist upon medical monitoring in excess of that required by law. All of our employees undergo annual physicals. Employees with frequent exposure to hazardous materials (such as those in contaminated soil) undergo semi-annual medical monitoring physicals. In addition, blood tests for benzene and phenol exposure are required of employees on manufactured gas plant (MGP) or other high-risk sites.

Our goal is an accident-free workplace. This commitment to safety helps make us a premier environmental remediation contractor. We have several programs in place that go beyond basic compliance to improve conditions for our employees, our customers and the general public:

• Employee Safety Training
  The cornerstone of our safety program is extensive and ongoing training for all of our employees. All management and field employees undergo OSHA 40-hour HAZMAT training along with the required OSHA eight-hour annual refresher course. In addition, we provide industry-specific, in-house training on a variety of topics, including OSHA HAZCOM, API Work Safe and others. Our employees also attend client-sponsored training and workshops in order to meet project-specific guidelines. Our program has received 100% compliance from PICS Contractor Screening and Contractor Management.
  


• Employee Incentive Program
  Our two-tiered employee incentive program is unique among environmental remediation contractors. The program awards points quarterly for accident-free behavior. Points are redeemable for merchandise. Additionally, those employees who remain accident-free for 12 quarters are awarded a cash bonus. This award has been given 40 times since the program's inception in 2001.
  


• Pre-job Safety Analysis
  Prior to the start of each new project, a Site Health and Safety Plan (HASP) is created. The HASP includes any potential hazards at the site and emergency contact information, along with a map and directions to the nearest hospital. On-site "Tool Box Talks" are held regularly during the course of the project so that changing conditions can be discussed among employees and supervisors. All employees are empowered to stop any job if there is imminent danger to employees, other contractors, the general public or the environment. Our continual focus on safety helps make safe work practices a habit for our employees.
  


• Third-Party Audits
  In addition to our own random audits, RW Collins hires third-party auditors to perform safety checks on a regular basis.
  


• Near Miss Accident Reporting
  When a "near miss" occurs on a job site,
  RW Collins investigates it as if the accident had occurred. By doing this, we can determine the causes and put procedures into place that will prevent such an event from actually occurring in the future.
